I am a James S. McDonnell independent fellow at the Rockefeller University Center for Studies in Physics and Biology, developing computational methods for studying microbial ecology in the human gut and in the marine environment, and its contribution to human and environmental health.
Prior to this, I completed my Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute of Science with Prof. Eran Segal, studying the human microbiome and its effect on host health and personalized nutrition.

Countless global processes rely on the workings of microbes, making them excellent indicators of environmental health and targets for intervention. I study the ability of natural microbial communities to undertake these roles using machine learning to combine multiple layers of environmental and microbial data.

The genetic repertoire of microbes is immense, enabling them to perform countless biochemical tasks. Microbes are typically hard to study, as most cannot be grown in the lab. I design new tools to study microbial genes sampled directly from their natural habitat and learn how they affect their environment.

Microbes in and on our body have been suggested to contribute to numerous disorders including diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases and autism. In past and ongoing work I am developing methods aimed at exploring the role of the microbiome in metabolic disease and its mechanisms of action.
